In rented Odisha home, woman’s body under kitchen sink, her son on the run

In the rented house of Puri town in Odisha, the decomposed body of a woman was discovered under the kitchen slab on Monday night. Police suspect the woman was killed by her own son, who is currently at large. The motive for the murder remains under investigation. The landlord, who lives in a different part of the building, reported a foul odor coming from the vacant house for three to four days before the police were alerted.

Upon arriving, officers broke into the home, discovered recent construction in the kitchen, and eventually unearthed the woman's body after a four-hour operation. According to the landlord, the woman and her son were residing in the rented property. Police believe the body belongs to the woman, as her son is nowhere to be found and unreachable, making him the prime suspect.

The suspect is in his forties, and special teams with senior officers have been deployed to locate him. Based on circumstantial evidence, authorities suspect the crime occurred before August 21, although a post-mortem examination will provide further clarity. The killer likely attempted to deceive investigators by hiding the body under the kitchen slab and sealing it over.

The mother and son earned their living by selling items near the Puri Jagannath temple. The son reportedly cared for his mother and showed no signs of wrongdoing.
