I’ll submit myself to every investigation to clear my name – Afenyo-Markin on alleged extortion

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has declared his readiness to undergo any investigation into extortion allegations brought against him by Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi. During an emergency recall session of Parliament on August 24, 2026, Afenyo-Markin pledged full cooperation with any authorized investigative body if the accusations are officially reported, whether to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor, or another appropriate authority.

He urged his accusers to present the matter to these bodies if they believe he has committed an offense, stating, "If they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared."

In addressing the allegations, Afenyo-Markin has already taken legal action against some individuals and media organizations, filing two lawsuits. The first, case GT 1029/2026, was lodged at the Accra High Court against Sammy Adu-Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited, while the second, case GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court against Eric Agjei and Peace FM.

The Minority Leader expressed confidence in the courts' ability to handle the cases fairly and appropriately, describing his willingness to submit himself to the legal process as acting with a "high moral ground."

Afenyo-Markin also cautioned politicians against overstepping boundaries in their discourse, warning that certain lines should not be crossed and must be addressed if violated. He defended his own conduct in Parliament, asserting his commitment to integrity and responsibility.
