'I was sure I was dying': Reiger Park accused alleges police torture

Reagan Cheslin Collis, the principal defendant in a murder case tied to Reiger Park, Gauteng, has claimed to the Boksburg Magistrate's Court that he was tortured by police, leading him to confess to the killings. The 23-year-old made these allegations during a bail hearing on Tuesday. Collis, alongside his co-accused Jamal Meyer, 24, and Elvino Levert Crafford, 27, faces charges including eight counts of murder, robbery, and firearm offenses.

Collis, who lives with his mother, grandmother, and siblings, is unemployed, has a five-month-old child, and left school after Grade 9. He stated his intention to plead not guilty to the charges. Collis claimed he was unaware of having any previous convictions but had several pending criminal cases, including a murder case and attempted murder charges in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court.

He described being subjected to police torture for over three hours, which allegedly included having plastic over his head and being repeatedly forced to confess to the killings. Collis maintained he was not present at the crime scene but had an alibi supported by video footage. He also denied possessing any firearms or dangerous weapons and claimed he had more than four witnesses to corroborate his story.

The magistrate allowed the presentation of CCTV footage to demonstrate Collis's alibi, while permitting the prosecution to present the investigating officer's affidavit.
