Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban has been operating a privately held company called the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company. For the past four years, this business has been operating at a loss, with Cuban personally absorbing the costs. In a recent post on social media platform Bluesky, Cuban revealed that he is still subsidizing every prescription filled at cost plus.

He stated that while progress is being made, the company has not yet reached a point of break-even. The primary obstacle, according to Cuban, lies in the resistance from employees within the pharmaceutical industry and the structure created by pharmacy benefit managers that leads to higher prices for patients. Cuban's solution involves removing insurance companies from the equation and allowing patients to pay cash for routine medications at a published price.

However, this approach has been slow to gain traction, as the largest pharmacy benefit managers, owned by public companies, have grown too powerful to be easily swayed. Despite the challenges, Cuban remains committed to his cost-plus model, which he claims is still operational despite the ongoing financial losses.
