How Tekno Found Solace Again in Music After Almost Quitting the Industry

Tekno, the 33-year-old Nigerian musician, is currently experiencing a period of happiness and fulfillment in his musical career. After spending time in Nigeria and the United States, he has made Paris his home for four months. His newfound sense of peace is the result of resilience, after battling severe acid reflux in 2017, which caused his vocal cords to become inflamed. This condition led to his vocal cords becoming inflamed and him considering quitting the music industry.

In April 2017, Tekno publicly announced his struggle with severe acid reflux, which in turn affected his ability to sing. He recounted feeling anger and dissatisfaction, as he couldn't sing for high-profile artists like Drake, Billie Eilish, and Travis Scott. As a result of his ongoing battle with acid reflux, Tekno had to cancel concerts, leading to financial losses of millions.

After numerous doctor's visits, Tekno opted for vocal cord surgery in New York in 2019, which resulted in the successful regaining of his voice a year later.

However, Tekno's passion for music didn't come back immediately following the surgery. In fact, he admits to disliking listening to music during his post-surgery malaise. It wasn't until he started reading more that he was able to find solace and change his perspective, ultimately leading to the creation of his third studio album, Where Did Love Go?, in July 2026.

Reflecting on his past successes, Tekno has few regrets, but one notable one is not releasing his debut album during a time when he was releasing hit after hit. He acknowledges that he simply didn't have the guidance or knowledge at the time. Despite this, Tekno emphasizes that he is one of the fortunate artists who can create music in his bedroom and have fans around the world enjoy it.

For him, the love of music is what propels his career, and he firmly believes that receiving credit is not his motivation. Instead, he focuses on his passion for making music and the opportunities that come with it.
