Here is How Much Jazz, Zong, and Ufone Invested Into 5G So Far

Telecom operators across Pakistan have collectively invested an estimated $178.57 million in the development of 5G networks, according to a Senate briefing. Jazz has allocated $59.67 million towards this initiative by June 2026, while Zong has contributed $98.9 million. Ufone, on the other hand, has committed $20 million to the cause, though their investment figure remains an estimate pending post-merger activities.

This information was relayed by the Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, in response to a Senate inquiry.

The Senate was also made aware that the government, through its January 6, 2026, Policy Directive for Spectrum Auction, did not impose any specific targets on telecom companies regarding foreign direct investment for the 5G rollout. The investment figures provided are based on submissions from the mobile operators themselves. Looking forward, Jazz anticipates an additional investment of $30.33 million, Zong plans to invest $39.9 million, although Ufone's forecast remains pending data completion following their merger proceedings.

In terms of network upgrades, a total of 1,136 sites have been transformed to 5G across the country, with Punjab leading the charge with 587 upgraded sites, followed by Sindh with 262. Islamabad Capital Territory follows with 192 upgraded sites, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 64, and Balochistan has upgraded 31 sites. Unfortunately, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir did not report any 5G upgraded sites in the provided data.

Fiberization efforts have also been significant, with Pakistan boasting 10,499 fiberized sites, amounting to a 17.2% fiberization rate. Punjab leads in fiberization with 6,153 sites, followed by Sindh with 2,121, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 953, Islamabad with 521, Balochistan with 417, Gilgit-Baltistan with 196, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir with 138. Notably, Gilgit-Baltistan has the highest fiberization rate at 36.3%, reflecting a higher penetration rate compared to Islamabad's 30.4% and AJK's lowest rate at 9.5%.
