Grayscale's Zcash ETF Begins Trading on NYSE Arca

Today, Grayscale's Zcash ETF commenced trading on the NYSE Arca under the ticker $ZCSH. This marks the inaugural U.S. exchange-traded product providing spot exposure to ZEC, Zcash's native token. The ETP converts Grayscale's longstanding private Zcash Trust into a redeemable form, with ZEC custodied by Coinbase. BNY serves as the administrator, while Jane Street and Virtu act as authorized participants.

The fund was launched with approximately 387,000 ZEC (equivalent to $313 million in assets under management). It carries a significant 2.50% annual fee, ten times the rate of a typical Bitcoin ETF, with early fee revenue designated for Zcash ecosystem development. Grayscale positions ZEC as Bitcoin with optional privacy, boasting a 21M supply cap, halvings, and a shielded pool of roughly 4.4M ZEC (26% of supply) that became more efficient following July's Ironwood upgrade. ZEC has rallied since its listing, nearing multi-year highs around $800-900.

However, an irony arises as ZCSH holds its ZEC in transparent Coinbase custody wallets, allowing investors to gain price exposure without engaging with the shielded technology that distinguishes Zcash as a privacy asset.
