GrapheneOS Is Coming to Motorola Phones Starting in 2027

Starting in 2027, GrapheneOS plans to support Motorola smartphones, a significant expansion beyond the existing Google Pixel devices. Motorola is collaborating directly with GrapheneOS on this initiative. While Motorola's phones will initially run Motorola's regular Android software, users will be able to install GrapheneOS afterward.

GrapheneOS anticipates that its first supported Motorola phone will be a traditional non-folding flagship, expected to launch in 2027. The developers have hinted that this device will likely belong to the same family as the current Motorola Signature. Support will later extend to next-generation versions of the Motorola Razr Fold and Razr Ultra, which would introduce a new folding design for GrapheneOS.

However, current 2026 versions of the Motorola Signature, Razr Fold, and Razr Ultra will not receive GrapheneOS support as they do not meet the necessary hardware requirements. These upcoming Motorola devices will use flagship Snapdragon chipsets, offering stronger CPU and GPU performance and isolated hardware components necessary for GrapheneOS's security architecture.

To achieve official support, the Motorola devices must meet or exceed GrapheneOS's hardware requirements. These include stronger hardware memory tagging (MTE), improved secure-element integration, and other essential hardware security features. Motorola will provide firmware and drivers in the formats required by GrapheneOS, allowing the company and Qualcomm to directly address hardware-related issues.

This collaboration should simplify GrapheneOS's support for Motorola devices and ensure timely updates alongside new Android releases.

With this move, GrapheneOS users will have a significant alternative to Google's Pixel lineup while gaining official support for both conventional flagship phones and Motorola's Razr foldables.
