Godot Engine partner firm W4 Games secures $18m Series B funding, signs deal with Tencent to bolster Asia ecosystem

W4 Games, a firm founded by the creators of the open-source Godot engine, has secured $18 million in Series B funding led by Tencent. This investment brings the company's total funding to $33 million, with additional backing from OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant, and Tobias Lutke's family office. W4 Games, established in 2022, specializes in providing commercial services to developers using Godot, including console porting.

Godot, the engine W4 Games supports, has seen significant growth, with over 50% increase in Steam games using it in 2024 and 2025, now totaling 1,262 titles on the platform. W4 Games signed a deal with Tencent to expand and strengthen the Godot ecosystem in Asia. The company's headcount will increase by 50% as part of the investment, aiming to hire 10-15 new employees in the next 12 months, primarily in Asia.

W4 Games sees Asia as a fast-growing market for Godot, with China and Japan being the most mature markets. The company aims to grow to become one of the top three companies in the game engine space and for Godot to become the leading general-purpose game engine.
