Giants left-hander Carson Whisenhunt tears UCL in pitching elbow, surgery has been recommended

San Francisco Giants left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt suffered a torn UCL in his pitching elbow, according to an MRI conducted on Tuesday. The injury occurred during the third inning of a 5-0 victory against the Cincinnati Reds, when Whisenhunt felt pain in his elbow while throwing his final two pitches. He had been performing exceptionally well before the injury, having been on a roll with a recent 47-pitch outing.

The Giants recommended surgery for Whisenhunt, placing him on the 15-day injured list due to a previously diagnosed sprained elbow. The 25-year-old, drafted in the second round by San Francisco in 2022, had previously undergone Tommy John reconstructive surgery. The injury is another setback for the already injury-plagued Giants pitching staff.
