Ghana is much safer this year than even 2025 – Interior Minister

Ghana's Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, stated that the country is safer now than it was in 2025. At a press conference in Accra, the minister praised the security forces for their dedication, stating, "We are much safer, and we can’t go out for all the sacrifices that you and your men and women are making so that you keep this country safe."

The minister highlighted the increased number of curfews, which have risen from just one in 2024 to 11 this year, affecting communities such as Binduri, Bimbila, Bomaa, Walewale, and others. However, he noted that the situation has improved significantly, with only three curfews remaining. In Bawku, the curfew hours have been drastically reduced, with restrictions now imposed from 22 hours to 05:00 hours instead of 22 hours to 00:00 hours.

Additionally, the mobility of motorbike riders has been eased in Bawku, starting from 05:00 hours. The National Peace Council played a crucial role in mediating conflicts in Bawku by engaging both parties involved. Furthermore, the government received financial support from the Japanese Government to facilitate this peace process.

In other regions like Sampa and Nkwanta, the minister acknowledged ongoing challenges but expressed hope for lasting peace, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation between chiefs, elders, and the government and security agencies.
