Ghana Gas looks beyond profits as PURC backs fresh investment in infrastructure

Ghana Gas Company is reorienting its focus from improved profitability to reinvestment, with expansion and stronger operational reliability at the forefront of its growth strategy. The company's CEO, Judith Adjobah Blay, stated that the company plans to utilize its profits to enhance facility efficiency and ensure a steady gas supply for power generation and industrial applications. Blay made these remarks following an industrial tour by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) in Takoradi.

A key investment priority for Ghana Gas is redundancy within its gas processing operations. The company is poised to commence construction of a third compressor, which Blay anticipates will provide additional capacity when existing equipment is not operational. She expects the commencement of construction by the end of September.

This push for reinvestment and expansion is aimed at strengthening Ghana Gas' infrastructure, which plays a critical role in Ghana's power and industrial sectors. The Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr. Shafic Suleman, described Ghana Gas as a strategic asset for the country's power sector and emphasized that the regulator's visit was intended to comprehend the investment requirements to sustain the company's operations.

Suleman affirmed that PURC would continue to encourage investment in Ghana Gas' infrastructure while supporting efforts to build the company's technical and human-resource capacity. The regulator also highlighted the need to safeguard the company's infrastructure as Ghana strives to maintain a reliable energy supply.
