Germany Eyes Bigger Business Relationship With Pakistan

Germany is seeking to strengthen its business and economic ties with Pakistan, according to German Ambassador Ina Lepel. During a meeting with Pakistani Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Lepel expressed her interest in fostering stronger connections between German and Pakistani businesses. She commended Pakistan on its recent upgrade in sovereign credit rating by Moody’s, crediting the improvement to enhanced confidence in the nation's economic prospects and ongoing reform initiatives.

Lepel also acknowledged the nation's commendable economic advancements, despite the region's geopolitical complexities. Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan's enhanced foreign exchange reserves and the government's commitment to fiscal prudence. He emphasized the focus on maintaining economic stability, undertaking structural reforms, and establishing a conducive environment for investment and commercial activity.

The two parties engaged in discussions about German multinational corporations operating in Pakistan and potential avenues for expanding business collaboration. Aurangzeb underscored the necessity for policy consistency, simplified commercial procedures, and institutional reforms to facilitate enhanced foreign investment. He provided an overview of the Federal Board of Revenue's digitalization endeavors, asserting that technologically-driven reforms would bolster tax administration, transparency, and efficiency.

Lepel expressed her appreciation for Pakistan's economic stabilization and reform efforts, reaffirming Germany's enthusiasm for bolstering bilateral economic and business relationships. She extended an invitation to Aurangzeb to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK), scheduled to take place in Seoul later this year.
