Finland’s Stubb: Deep Strikes Into Russia Are ‘Only Way’ to Push Moscow Toward Peace Talks

Finnish President Alexander Stubb defended Ukraine's decision to conduct long-range strikes deep within Russia's territory during a press conference in Kyiv on Monday. He argued that targeting oil refineries and logistics facilities amplifies the financial strain on Moscow's ongoing war efforts, potentially leading to negotiations with the Kremlin.

Stubb highlighted Ukraine's significantly improved military, political, and financial standing compared to a year ago, during the country's 34th Independence Day. He emphasized that Ukraine is now better equipped than before and requested partners to bolster Ukraine's deep-strike capabilities. The Finnish leader expressed his support for Ukraine's deep-strike strategy, stating that it raises the cost of war for Russia.

He also cited that 65% of Russians now desire an end to the conflict. Stubb firmly believed that the key to initiating peace talks lies in intensifying the financial and military burdens Russia endures. The Coalition of the Willing, meeting in Kyiv on Ukraine's 35th Independence Day, pledged further military assistance, improved air defenses, and additional economic pressure on Russia.
