Europe's Solheim defeat in 2024 'extra incentive' for Maguire

Ireland's Leona Maguire has expressed her excitement over the prospect of regaining the Solheim Cup for Team Europe in September. The 2024 edition saw the United States triumph with a score of 15.5-12.5, following a victory in 2021 and a draw in 2022. Maguire, who participated in all three events, was included as one of two wildcard picks by Captain Anna Nordqvist for this year's tournament in Cromvoirt, Netherlands.

Having previously represented Europe in the competition in 2021, Maguire holds the record for the most rookie points in the history of the event. She explained that the Solheim Cup is a unique team event, which she enjoys greatly. After her last competitive match at the Women's Irish Open, Maguire aims to recharge before the upcoming Solheim Cup contest. She emphasized the importance of home support, mentioning that Irish fans helped the team in previous editions.
