Energy efficiency business accused of fraud by Victorian authorities

An energy efficiency firm, Royal One Pty Ltd, has had its accreditation suspended from a Victorian government initiative for allegedly presenting falsified images of work and inaccurate customer information. The Essential Services Commission revealed Royal One had been removed from the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, aimed at aiding residents reduce their energy expenses through improvements.

The business advertised itself as an expert in energy-efficient air conditioning, hot water systems, and solar and battery power on its website. However, the commission's fraud investigation team revealed that certain photographs submitted by Royal One to demonstrate energy efficiency enhancements had been digitally manipulated.

Furthermore, the commission stated that phone audits of Royal One's listed clients offered additional proof of attempted fraud. The Victorian Energy Upgrades program is intended to aid individuals in lowering their energy costs by improving efficiency. Certified companies that execute these energy efficiency upgrades can acquire certificates that they can subsequently sell to energy providers.

Royal One's VEU accreditation came to an end shortly after it was suspended, and the company has not applied for its reinstatement. Gerard Brody, chairperson and commissioner of the Essential Services Commission, disclosed that the agency became aware of Royal One's alleged deceit. The taskforce employs data, tip-offs, and other intelligence to detect and investigate areas of questionable activity, and in this instance, uncovered what is alleged to be deliberate and fraudulent behavior from Royal One.

The commission immediately suspended Royal One, directly impacting their ability to generate income from the VEU program. The commission emphasizes that intentionally violating the rules puts a business at risk.
