Emirati women now lead major parts of DIFC Courts, says Director Al Mheiri

Justice Omar Al Mheiri, Director of DIFC Courts, highlighted the significant rise in leadership positions held by Emirati women during a recent interview with Gulf News on Emirati Women's Day. Reflecting on his 20-year journey with the institution since its inception in 2005, Al Mheiri noted that Emirati women now lead major parts of the DIFC Courts, underscoring the institution's strengthened standing as a result.

He began his career as a prosecutor before becoming a judge in Dubai Courts before joining DIFC Courts. Al Mheiri emphasized that each stage of his career built his belief that public confidence in the justice system is earned case by case. He shared that the ambition for Dubai to become a global financial center necessitates a legal system that international businesses can rely upon, a goal DIFC Courts supports by efficiently resolving commercial disputes.

Addressing this year's Emirati Women's Day theme, "We Emerge Stronger and Better," Al Mheiri pointed out that the progress of the justice sector is largely due to the efforts of Emirati women. He advised women pursuing careers in the sector to prioritize gaining experience and understanding institutional workings over focusing on job titles alone, suggesting that those who have done so often emerge as stronger leaders.

Looking ahead, Al Mheiri stressed the importance of continuing to create clear pathways for Emirati women to attain senior positions within the justice sector, aiming to inspire more women to follow in their footsteps.
