El Gobierno aprueba el 'mando único' en Ceuta para la coordinación en la "devolución y repatriación" de los inmigrantes

The Spanish government has approved a single command in Ceuta to coordinate the return and repatriation of immigrants, following a special meeting of the National Security Council chaired by President Pedro Sánchez. The crisis was triggered by a massive influx of migrants, exceeding 80,000, crossing the border from Morocco at the end of July.

Elma Saiz, Spain's Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, explained that for the first time, the government will establish a functional authority, or "single command," led by Minister Angel Victor Torres. The command will coordinate with all relevant authorities and administrations to enhance the response to the crisis.

The command will include a specialized committee with representatives from Ceuta's autonomous government, the Delegación del Gobierno, the National Intelligence Center (CNI), the Department of Security, and 11 other ministries involved in managing the migration crisis. Saiz emphasized that Ceuta is the heart of Spain and the government has allocated all necessary resources to address the situation.

The minister highlighted the extraordinary nature of the situation, demanding an extraordinary response that has unfolded in several phases, from security and control to humanitarian assistance. So far, the first phase has successfully returned between 90-95% of the over 70,000 migrants who entered Ceuta on July 30-31 within 24 to 48 hours.

For those who did not return to their countries of origin, the government is now focusing on the second phase of return and repatriation, prioritizing the return of individuals of all ages while respecting the legal framework and human rights. Additionally, the government approved a new asylum law and a reform of the Extradition Act, according to Saiz.
