EC ANC members take legal action against party

A group of members from the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape have filed a lawsuit against their party. This action stems from their discontent with the nomination and selection procedures for councillor candidates in preparation for local government elections. In a letter, the group claims that these processes were not followed, as certain branch general meetings did not occur. Their move comes as the deadline approaches for submitting lists of candidates to the Electoral Commission.

Lwazi Rotya, one of the discontented candidates, states that they have exhausted all internal avenues to resolve the issue. He highlights concerns of "PR and Ward list manipulation in our region" and reports instances of fraud involving these lists. Rotya emphasizes their intention to launch a legal process against the ANC Eastern Cape provincial lists of Ward Councillors and PR Councillors. However, he urges the party leadership to engage in discussions to find a solution.
