Dublin’s Entity raises €5m for ‘new web’ era gaming platform

Dublin-based gaming distribution start-up Entity has secured €5m in seed funding for its upcoming web-based gaming platform, aiming to eliminate the need for consoles and PCs. Founded in 2024 by industry veterans Rich Barnwell, Kev Bergin, Dave McGovern, Fergus Duggan, and Artur Stawiarski, Entity plans to revolutionize gaming by allowing players to access games directly via browsers without downloads.

With the backing of venture capital firms ACT, Delta Partners, and Elkstone, along with support from Enterprise Ireland, the funds will be used to develop the platform, expected to launch in 2027, featuring a broad range of popular video games. The company's executives have also contributed to successful gaming studios Digit, acquired by Scopely in 2019, and Chilli Connect, acquired by Unity in the same year.

Entity's CEO and founder, Rich Barnwell, expresses enthusiasm about the platform's potential, stating that it will deliver console-quality gaming experiences instantly accessible on any device, marking a significant shift in the gaming industry.
