Don't repeat RCI just because findings don't suit, says PKR Youth chief

KUALA LUMPUR: The head of PKR Youth, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, cautioned against following the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) simply because the findings may not align with one's political agenda. Kamil expressed concern over the calls from Perikatan Nasional and Umno for a fresh RCI to re-examine the TH management.

He highlighted that the current RCI report was not a product of the current administration but had begun under previous governments. Kamil questioned the motives behind these demands, asking what exactly these parties want when their political interests are not served by the RCI's findings. He emphasized that if there are genuine errors in the report, they should present evidence instead of dismissing it merely because it doesn't fit their political narrative.

Kamil urged for transparency and maturity in a democratic system, suggesting that any new evidence or discrepancies should be openly addressed. He also pointed out the behavior of PN members of parliament who walked out during the report's unveiling at the Dewan Rakyat on August 12, despite being given the opportunity to review the findings.

Kamil urged all parties to refrain from using TH as a political tool, stressing that the institution holds trust from numerous depositors. He affirmed that the Madani Government is not intimidated by the truth and urged PN and Umno to stop manipulating state institutions for political advantage. He called for a defense of TH based on solid facts, evidence, and arguments if they genuinely wish to support the organization.

The RCI report, released on July 29, detailed the management and governance issues of TH from 2014 to 2020.
