Despite ‘Nasty’ Talks, Pistons and Jalen Duren Still ‘On Track’ for Long-Term Deal

Recent reports have suggested that negotiations between the Detroit Pistons and Jalen Duren have been particularly contentious, with some calling them "awfully nasty." However, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report reports that the two sides are still on track for a long-term contract. Duren is looking for a deal more comparable to the one signed by Walker Kessler this summer (4 years, $130 million) than the contract Mitchell Robinson received (3 years, $47.5 million).

While some in the NBA have questioned the Pistons and Duren's ability to patch up their relationship upon signing a new deal, a source close to the situation tells Fischer that once Duren signs a long-term deal securing his financial future, the wounds can eventually start to heal. The Pistons are also negotiating the extension of fellow prospect Ausar Thompson, who has been viewed by some as the better player compared to Duren.

While the Pistons have expressed a desire to keep Duren in Detroit long-term, there have been instances where his camp has looked for sign-and-trade scenarios to other teams. However, the idea of a sign-and-trade died once Jaylen Brown was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. Restricted free agency has also left Duren with limited options, and the most realistic path forward for both sides seems to be coming to an agreement on a long-term deal.
