ClimeCo and Marsoft Announce First Issuance of GreenScreen Shipping Carbon Credits Ready for Immediate Delivery

ClimeCo, a global leader in decarbonization efforts, and Marsoft – Global Carbon Solutions, a pioneering maritime carbon credits consultancy, have jointly announced the first issuance of carbon credits under the Marsoft GreenScreen project. This innovative solution, developed in collaboration with the MIT Sea Grant Design Laboratory, is designed to transform verified emissions reductions from vessel retrofits into high-quality carbon credits for the global shipping fleet.

Arlie Sterling, President of Marsoft, highlighted that this marks a significant milestone for the industry, providing the immediate funding needed to accelerate the pace of retrofitting and decarbonization. Currently, the shipping industry accounts for around 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the International Maritime Organization's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, many advanced fuel and propulsion technologies are still years away from becoming commercially viable.

With more than 350 ships already enrolled in the GreenScreen program, it effectively bridges the current gap by implementing energy-efficient retrofit technologies. These technologies help shipowners measurably reduce their vessels' CO₂ emissions and generate Gold Standard carbon credits based on the verified reductions. The revenue generated through the sale of these credits assists shipowners in overcoming financial barriers to investment and funding their retrofit programs.

Together, they aim to support shipowners in securing funding for more advanced retrofits and navigating the voluntary carbon market with confidence.
