ClassNK launches ‘Survey Compass,’ an AI assistant supporting survey-related operations

ClassNK has introduced 'Survey Compass,' an AI assistant designed to assist shipowners and ship management companies with survey-related tasks. This innovative tool responds to queries about classification survey matters in natural language, providing quick access to relevant information and sources. By streamlining the survey preparation and response process, Survey Compass aims to enhance efficiency and reduce workload for users.

The launch of Survey Compass represents the first step towards ClassNK's goal of creating a comprehensive digital service platform for ships in service. The platform will be continually improved based on user feedback and adoption. Available on ClassNK's Customer Hub – Ship in Service (CCH SiS) web portal, Survey Compass leverages its retrieval-based AI technology to answer questions with high accuracy and reliability.

Users can view the source documents used to generate each answer, enabling them to make well-informed decisions. Initially, Survey Compass will cover specific regulations, including Part B of the Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships, and related guidance. Future enhancements will include additional documents, such as international conventions and flag State requirements, as well as integration with vessel-specific data for more context-aware support.

By expanding these features, ClassNK aims to provide comprehensive assistance to shipowners and ship management companies in their daily operations.
