Chinese dad’s chemotherapy note prompts food vendor’s US$15 donation, goes viral

A street food vendor in Hefei, Anhui province, made headlines after discreetly adding 100 yuan (US$15) to a takeaway order for a family whose child was undergoing chemotherapy. The child’s father, Zhu, was moved by the act of kindness and shared the story online. Wang Xianhuang, an egg pancake vendor, had noticed a note with the delivery that read, “For a child undergoing chemotherapy.

Please do not include shredded kelp or lettuce. Make half of it non-spicy.” Wang prepared the pancake, added soy milk, and included 100 yuan cash. The note resonated with Wang, who, despite facing entrepreneurial debt and personal hardships, recognized the profound impact of his small act of compassion. The donation went viral, leading to a doubling of customers at his stall.

Wang visited Haolin in the hospital, who affectionately called him “Uncle Egg Pancake.” Wang donated the earnings from his recent sales, amounting to 8,100 yuan (US$1,200), along with an award, to the family. Shu Zhizhong, founder of Wang’s egg pancake brand, also contributed 2,000 yuan to the family’s fund. The child’s condition is currently stable, though further treatment is required for the next 18 months.
