China’s Xi Jinping likely to attend BRICS summit in Delhi next month, first India visit in 7 years

India and China's Special Representatives are engaged in crucial border talks in Beijing, as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hold discussions ahead of the upcoming BRICS summit. This is the 25th round of talks since their June meeting at the BRICS National Security Advisers' gathering in New Delhi.

Prior to these talks, Doval held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Vice President Han met with India's Special Representative and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Beijing.

The two sides are discussing measures to maintain peace and stability along the border while exploring ways to bolster bilateral ties. The Embassy of India in China reported that Doval and Han Zheng discussed maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas and exchanged views on strengthening relations in economic, political, and multilateral areas.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong highlighted Han Zheng's emphasis on the recent improvement in India-China relations during their meeting with Doval. Han Zheng noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met twice over the past two years, reaching important understandings on the future direction of bilateral relations.

The Chinese side stressed the need for both countries to adopt a long-term strategic perspective in their relationship, implementing important consensuses reached by their leaders, enhancing strategic mutual trust, and tapping into cooperation potential.

Doval arrived in Beijing for a two-day visit, following a series of high-level engagements between India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China's President Xi Jinping. These meetings at international summits, such as the SCO Summit in Tianjin last year, have welcomed the positive momentum and progress in bilateral relations. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the necessity of a stable relationship and cooperation between India and China, viewing each other as development partners while ensuring differences do not escalate into disputes.
