Canada svarer USA: Øker tollen på flere varer til 50 prosent

Canada and the United States have matched each other's toll rates on various goods, increasing them to 50 percent, according to a report by CNBC. The total amount of this measure applies to more than 700 products across multiple categories, such as steel, lumber products, and timber. A Canadian government spokesperson told journalists on Tuesday that they will raise all existing tolls on American steel and aluminum from 25 percent to 50 percent, as reported by the Toronto Star.

This step comes in response to the U.S.'s threat of imposing lower tariffs on Canadian goods earlier this week. Canada is now matching the U.S. in terms of tariff levels, which will be on par with the United States. In a post on Truth Social, former President Trump stated on Monday that steel and cars from Canada would be subject to a 50 percent tariff starting from January 1, 2027.

The tariff applies to "all cars, trucks, both big and small, trailers, and steel," warned Trump. Canada has been "teasing" the United States for years with its high tariff rates on our farmers and agricultural products, making life impossible for these great American patriots, he wrote. The U.S. president has long targeted Canada and asserted that the country seeks state privilege without being an American state.

Earlier on Tuesday, he also proposed renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, which forms part of the border between the American state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario. The U.S. and Canada have been negotiating a tariff agreement for a long time, and both parties owe each other for the breakdown of talks.
