Bosomtwe DCE faces removal threat over alleged overspending, DRIP controversy

Assembly Members in Ashanti Region's Bosomtwe District have demanded the removal of their District Chief Executive (DCE), Hamidu Abdallah, over allegations of overspending and mismanagement. According to the petition, an audit revealed excessive administrative expenses, particularly on communication, despite budget provisions for laptops to streamline communication.

Nana Akwasi Asare Nyansapor, leader of the petitioners, questioned the continued heavy spending on printing letters and fuel for distribution when laptops were already budgeted. The petition also highlights the DCE's obstruction of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), alleging that he has refused to release DRIP equipment for MP-led initiatives while allowing private individuals to use them for cash.

Additionally, the Assembly members accuse the DCE of prioritizing office renovations over essential infrastructure, such as streetlights, and failing to brief the Assembly on government projects. They also claim the DCE has condoned illegal mining and delayed Assembly Members' pay. Despite the allegations, DCE Hamidu Abdallah denies all accusations, stating his actions have been development-focused. He has threatened legal action against the petition leader for defamation.
