Backrooms Is Officially Coming to HBO Max in September

Backrooms, the horror movie directed by 21-year-old Kane Parsons, is set to launch on HBO Max on September 25, 2023. The film will premiere on HBO network channels the following day at 8pm ET. Backrooms had a successful theatrical run in August, grossing over $80 million in its opening weekend and becoming A24's highest-grossing movie of all time, earning nearly $400 million worldwide.

After its theatrical release, the film became available to stream on YouTube in extended "Everything Must Go" screenings that included additional footage from Parsons' original YouTube series. The extra footage is currently available for free on YouTube, but it is unclear if it will be added to HBO Max. The movie is also available for rent or purchase digitally on platforms like Prime Video and as a 4K Blu-ray with over three hours of special features from the A24 Shop.

Backrooms has received positive reviews, with critics praising it as "a truly terrifying cinematic rabbit hole" and it currently holds an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Following its success, there are already discussions about a potential sequel, and Parsons has also expressed his interest in adapting the popular game Portal. Other movies inspired by creepypasta stories, such as a Siren Head movie and the upcoming Resident Evil film, are also receiving support after Backrooms' success.
