Azmin tutup pintu kembali ke PKR

Former Deputy President of the People’s Justice Party (PKR) Azmin Ali has ruled out the possibility of rejoining the party, despite his elected counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, inviting him to return. Azmin was expelled from PKR in February 2020 following his involvement in the Sheraton incident, which saw Bersatu leave Pakatan Harapan (PH), ultimately leading to the collapse of the PH government.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Azmin, who also serves as the party's secretary-general, expressed his belief that Bersatu remains the best platform for continuing his political journey, according to Berita Harian. "The time for Bersatu will come. We need to work diligently," he stated. Bersatu has also faced a wave of defections, with former Deputy President Hamzah Zainudin being expelled in February and now leading the Vision Malaysia Party (Wawasan).

Bersatu's situation became more precarious earlier this month when PAS ended its political cooperation with the party. While both parties remain within the National Alliance (PN), Bersatu decided to use its own logo in the upcoming elections in Negeri Sembilan following PAS's involvement with the Barisan Nasional (BN). During the PKR National Congress earlier this month, Anwar urged the veteran party member to rejoin PKR and continue the struggle for reform.

Former Deputy President Tian Chua and Dr Xavier Jayakumar subsequently confirmed their return to the party, sparking speculation that more former PKR leaders might follow suit.
