Angel Reese breaks WNBA record with 26 rebounds against Sparks, sets single-season record as well

Los Angeles (AP) — Angel Reese shattered WNBA records on a single night, leading the Atlanta Dream to a 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. Reese amassed an astonishing 26 rebounds, surpassing both the season record and the single-game mark. In her postgame interview, Reese expressed her focus on winning for her team, stating, "Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots.

Tonight I couldn’t hit (anything) so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side." Reese's achievement topped Chamique Holdsclaw's previous record of 24 rebounds, set in 2003, and raised her season rebound total to 458, surpassing A’ja Wilson's 2024 record. This performance secured Reese's 27th double-double of the season, including a crucial basket with 13.9 seconds left in the game that resulted in 11 points.

Dream guard Allisha Gray marveled at Reese's talent, saying, "That's a talent. I'm just in awe watching her rebound." A three-time WNBA All-Star, Reese set a rookie record with 13.1 rebounds per game and established the league's all-time record for 15 consecutive double-doubles while playing for Chicago in 2024. This season, she has again led the league in rebounding with 12.0 per game.
