Amos Yee, 27, to be charged on Aug. 26 for allegedly making racially divisive & indecent comments online

Amos Yee, a 27-year-old convicted sex offender, is set to face charges on August 26 for allegedly publishing racially divisive and indecent comments online. According to an August 25 police news release, the offending content was found to be alarming and divisive. Between April and July 2026, multiple reports were filed with the police, leading to investigations into Yee's activities.

Racially divisive posts made by Yee in April and May 2026 included statements accusing the Malay-Muslim and Indian communities in Singapore of facing heavy discrimination at the hands of the Chinese majority. He further expressed discontent with the Singapore government's treatment of these communities and encouraged protests against the administration.

Yee's sentiments were reiterated in a video he posted on May 27. Indecent comments were made in a blog post on June 30, where Yee argued that children could consent to sexual acts and called for the abolition of laws governing the age of consent. Prior to this, in 2021, he had produced three videos advocating for child sexual relationships and the elimination of child pornography laws.

Yee faces charges for knowingly attempting to incite racial disharmony and for making indecent communications likely to cause alarm. A conviction for the former could result in up to three years in prison, a fine, or both. For the latter offense, he risks a fine of up to S$5,000. The police have disabled the video on X, and Yee has been issued a Stop Communication Direction to remove the content from his blog.

Yee is also scheduled to plead guilty on September 7 to National Service (NS) enlistment offenses, having previously faced charges in March for three NS-related offenses.
