Alpine skiing-Double Olympic champion Brignone has further knee surgery

Milan, August 25 - Italian double Olympic skiing champion Federica Brignone underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to remove a plate and screws from her left knee, which were implanted last year. Now 36 years old, Brignone clinched Alpine skiing gold in the super-G and giant slalom at the Milano-Cortina Games last February, a mere 10 months after suffering multiple leg fractures and a torn anterior cruciate ligament at national championships.

The Italian Winter Sports Federation announced that Brignone will be able to resume physical activity in a few weeks. Before the surgery, Brignone shared on Facebook that she opted for further procedure due to ongoing pain while skiing and engaging in certain other activities. The Alpine ski World Cup season commences in late October with a giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, followed by the world championships in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, next February.
