Alma Center Lincoln cancels football game after player's death

Alma Center Lincoln has suspended its upcoming football match in the wake of a player's death. According to Max Preps, a high school sports website, the Red Raiders were scheduled to host the Cornell Chiefs in a Friday, Aug. 28 home game. Adam Massman, a senior at Alma Center, passed away last week due to injuries sustained during a game.

Emergency medical technicians were present at the game, and Massman was promptly transported to the hospital. Drew Semingson, the superintendent of the district, stated that the cancellation of the game does not signify long-term plans for the football season. Adam Massman was deeply involved in the Lincoln community, participating in multiple sports, clubs, and activities, and building friendships wherever he went.

Semingson expressed the impact of the loss on the Lincoln family in a statement released over the weekend. Adam's family holds strong ties throughout the schools. In an interview with the Journal Sentinel on Monday, Aug. 24, Adam's mother, Brianne Massman, described her son as determined, stating, "What he invested in, he invested in all the way."

A visitation will be held at the Lincoln Jr./Sr. High School gym from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, with additional visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. The funeral service will commence at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with the burial taking place at East Lawn Cemetery. The family requests attendees to dress as they knew Massman, which could involve wearing a sports uniform if they played sports with him, show clothes if they showed cattle with him, or street clothes if that is how they knew Adam.
