A.P. Star Hotels Association calls for swift reforms to boost tourism sector

The Andhra Pradesh Star Hotels Association (ASHA) recently met with Special Chief Secretary of the Department of Tourism, Shamsher Singh Rawat, to discuss recommendations for advancing the tourism sector in the state. Led by ASHA president R.V. Swamy, the delegation presented a report titled "Strategic Assessment of Andhra Pradesh Tourism (2024–2029)," which acknowledged the government's progress in tourism policies and recent efforts to attract investments.

ASHA members emphasized the need for accelerated implementation of reforms to enhance tourism infrastructure and investment across the state. Among their key proposals, the association called for immediate incentives for tourism MSMEs to support local businesses in various sectors such as food, entertainment, wellness, adventure, and visitor experiences. The delegation also suggested establishing a permanent government-industry platform to foster tourism, investments, MICE activities, and destination weddings.

ASHA advocated for improved coordination between the Tourism and Endowments departments, proposing a long-stay strategy for the revered pilgrimage site of Tirupati that could be adapted for other major religious destinations. Additionally, the association proposed developing Amaravati into a comprehensive tourism, entertainment, and MICE hub.

Members stressed the significance of workforce development, affordable accommodation, homestays, digital tourism services, and stronger district-level execution. They expressed confidence that the new leadership would catalyze tourism development, investment, and job creation in the region.
