A first for Nvidia: One of its employees is now facing 5 years in prison for smuggling AI chips into China

Zhang, the alleged ringleader, is accused of orchestrating the scheme alongside a co-founder and other staff from Super Micro Computer, a company that utilizes Nvidia's technologies to produce advanced artificial intelligence servers.

The group allegedly smuggled these servers, under U.S. control due to Nvidia's American origin, to Chinese buyers while authorities grappled with the black market surrounding AI technology. In response, Nvidia emphasized its commitment to compliance with legal requirements and pledged assistance to Taiwan authorities in resolving the allegations.
