Your Android Auto just lost a critical driving feature, and no one knows why

Google Maps, a widely-used navigation app, has been plagued by a recurring issue affecting traffic data display on Android Auto. Typically, the app presents green, yellow, and red lines to signify traffic flow, with green (or blue) indicating smooth traffic, yellow representing a slowdown, and red signifying heavy or halted traffic. This feature proves invaluable in selecting the most efficient route. However, the functionality has been compromised for many users recently.

Reports of the problem began surfacing in July, and Google reportedly resolved it towards the month's end. Yet, it appears the issue has resurfaced, particularly impacting Android Auto users. Discrepancies have been noted since the past fortnight, but the problem has been most pronounced in the recent days. Traffic data in Google Maps seems to be at least partially unresponsive on Android Auto.

While certain map settings continue to display traffic data, the general navigation in its default view appears to be broken. This issue persists even when the application is directly used on the device for some users.

Though Google hasn't officially acknowledged this latest wave of the problem, it's undoubtedly irritating for those affected. Some users have reported that uninstalling recent Google Maps updates temporarily rectifies the issue.
