Wrexham targeting ‘quality not quantity’ as team boss addresses calls for attacking transfers

Wrexham’s CEO Michael Williamson has highlighted the club’s focus on quality rather than quantity in their transfer market strategy. So far, the team has made three new signings this season - goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland, full-back Danny Imray from Crystal Palace, and midfielder Ben Whiteman from Preston North End - for a total investment of $20.75 million.

This cautious approach has led to a quiet start to the season, with Wrexham currently 13th in the Championship after two matches, including a 1-1 draw against Watford. With the transfer deadline looming, Williamson emphasized that the club seeks to improve the squad with “quality” players, rather than simply adding more talent. He acknowledged the challenge of finding a top-tier striker, stating that the club already has two capable strikers in Kieffer Moore and Sam Smith, and that the players they target are likely in the range of £40 million [$54.5 million].

Williamson also pointed out that Wrexham must compete against top clubs from Europe's top five leagues to sign high-quality players. With two games already completed, Wrexham has a critical period ahead as they aim to secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history, with upcoming matches against Birmingham City and Millwall.
