Workers reject unions as TUC, NLC picket Abuja hotel

On Monday, the workers at the Abuja Continental Hotel openly rejected the idea of unionization, rallying against the proposal with chants of "No to union." The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) staged a picket at the hotel, protesting what they claimed to be anti-labor practices by management.

However, the workers themselves disputed the unions' claims, insisting they had not asked for intervention and were not interested in joining any unions. The TUC and NLC accused the hotel management of denying workers the right to unionize and collectively bargain. In response, the TUC's General Secretary, Nuhu Toro, accused the workers of being unaware of the correspondence between the unions and the management, and claimed they were not representative of all employees.

The workers, however, maintained that they were not being represented and were concerned about the potential impact of picketing on the hotel's business.
