Woman killed after car ploughs into Melbourne shopping centre

A woman died after a car collided with lunchtime diners at a Westfield Knox shopping centre in Melbourne's east on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 12:45pm when the vehicle crashed into the restaurant, Martini and Co, which sits outside the mall. The woman was sitting outdoors when the crash took place.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash, but Victoria Police have stated they do not believe the incident was deliberate. Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and are reported to be in stable condition by an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.

A second customer of the cafe was also checked by paramedics at the scene. The restaurant, Martini and Co, has since closed until further notice and issued an apology for the inconvenience, asking for the public's understanding.
