Woman dies after car crashes into shopping centre cafe

A woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a car that subsequently crashed into a cafe at the Westfield Knox shopping centre in east Melbourne. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 12.45pm on Monday following reports of a collision. Police suspect that a female pedestrian was the initial victim of the car accident before it collided with the cafe. Unfortunately, the woman, whose identity has not been officially confirmed, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The victim, a 51-year-old woman from Wantirna, and her female passenger were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two individuals were taken to Maroondah Hospital in stable condition. Ambulance Victoria reported that the two patients were being treated without life-threatening complications.

Martini and Co, a cafe located within the shopping centre, announced on social media that it would remain closed until further notice following the incident. Authorities have not concluded that the crash was intentional. Crime scene investigators, specifically major collision detectives, have been deployed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
