Waze alerts are coming to navigation in Rivian’s electric vehicles

Waze's live alerts, which track police sightings, speed cameras, and more, are set to arrive in the Rivian R1 and R2 electric vehicles. The Waze app enhances driving directions with real-time alerts based on input from other vehicles on the road. This feature has been adopted by other navigation apps, including Google Maps. However, in Rivian's vehicles, certain features take longer due to the company's preference for proprietary software over Android Auto.

According to Rivian's Wassym Bensaid, Waze's real-time alerts will eventually be available on the R1 and R2 using their own software. The announcement mentions that speed camera and police sighting reports are among the initial supported alerts. Other alert types, such as crash reports, may follow in the future. The company plans to roll out the real-time reports with the upcoming 2026.31 OTA update.
