VIDEO: Ogogo’s wife weeps as late actor is buried

On Monday, the wife of late Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, affectionately known as Ogogo, was seen weeping uncontrollably at his burial in Ilaro, Ogun State. A video captured the emotional scene, showing the woman consoling herself as a group of women, believed to be family friends, provided support. Dozens of mourners, including family members, friends, colleagues, and sympathizers, gathered to pay their final respects to the 66-year-old actor.

Mourners carried Ogogo's remains to the burial site following Islamic rites. Ogogo's friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, was also seen shedding tears as he was consoled by mourners. Notable Nollywood actors, such as Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Madam Saje, Mr Latin, and Toyosi Adesanya, arrived in Ilaro for the burial.

Notable figures such as Ireti Osayemi, Bisi Omo Logbalogba, and Bola Oyin-Adejobi also attended the event. Actor Bola Oyin-Adejobi paid tribute to Ogogo in an interview prior to the burial, praying for the deceased to attain Al-Jannah Firdaus. Actress Lilian Esoro announced her father's death, and Ogogo was laid to rest after a lying-in-state ceremony in his hometown earlier in the day.

Ogogo passed away at 3pm on Sunday, according to a burial announcement by veteran actor Jide Kosoko on Instagram. Kosoko had informed the public that the actor's remains would be transported to Ilaro for the funeral, with the burial prayer held by the Ilaro Muslim Community. Ogogo's death occurred days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, pleaded for medical help for their father, who had been suffering from stage-four cancer.

Doctors informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered due to his condition, leading the family to explore alternative treatment options. Ogogo was a celebrated figure in Nigerian cinema, especially in Yoruba-language films. His career spanned over four decades, during which he appeared in hundreds of films and became one of the most recognizable actors in Yoruba cinema.
