Ukraine allies undeterred by Russian threats, vow more aid

Despite ongoing Russian threats, Ukraine's Western allies remain steadfast in their commitment to bolster military support for Kyiv. At a meeting in Kiev and via video conference on Monday, leaders from the Coalition of the Willing - including British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky - reaffirmed their united stance in backing Ukraine's fight for sovereignty, freedom, and territorial integrity.

The group pledged to ignore Russia's "irresponsible threats" and assured they wouldn't waver in their assistance to Ukraine.

The leaders also expressed their resolve to enhance Ukraine's air defenses as an immediate priority, deepen cooperation with Ukraine's defense sector, and exchange relevant technologies. The UK government recently endorsed Zelensky's request to develop long-range cruise missiles using British Storm Shadow technology. This move, met with criticism from Moscow, prompted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to accuse London of "adding fuel to the fire" and threatened "the destruction of the relevant facilities."

Beyond immediate military aid, the coalition leaders emphasized the critical need to support Ukraine's energy sector ahead of the winter months. This includes funding the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and providing specialized equipment. Additionally, they vowed to persist in constraining Russia's financial resources through sanctions and broader economic measures, while also targeting sanctions circumvention and Russia's so-called shadow fleet - a network of aging vessels utilized to circumvent Western sanctions while transporting oil and other goods.

The leaders pledged to collaborate closely with the United States in the coming months on coordinated actions to "drain Russia's means to continue its illegal war." They reiterated their demand for Russia to accept a "full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire" and affirmed their readiness to prepare a multinational force that could eventually deploy to Ukraine once a credible cessation of hostilities is achieved.
