Tysk kjempeavtale for Equinor

Equinor has entered into a significant 15-year gas supply agreement with German energy company Uniper, extending its commercial collaboration well into the 2040s. The contract, which is the longest in Equinor's history, commits to supplying over 30 terawatt-hours of gas annually to Uniper, valued at around 5.6 billion kroner at a conservative price of two kroner per cubic meter.

Equinor's Chief Executive Anders Opedal emphasized that the deal highlights the need for long-term gas supplies to Europe, stating that Norwegian gas has historically heated German homes, powered German industry, and contributed to Germany's energy security. The agreement builds upon this legacy and reinforces Equinor's role as a reliable, long-term energy partner for Europe.

Uniper's CEO Michael Lewis discussed the company's efforts to secure gas following the loss of its supply from Russian Gazprom, stating that diversifying its portfolio with LNG and shale gas is a key strategy. The 2027 start date and 2041 expiration of the agreement underscore Equinor's commitment to a long-term partnership with Uniper.

Both companies have signed a non-binding intention agreement to explore potential sales of Equinor's verified sustainability data related to gas supply to Uniper. This data includes information on origin, climate intensity, and other characteristics of Equinor's gas production. Despite Uniper's challenges in 2022 due to Russian gas deliveries being disrupted, the Norwegian state took over, and Germany is currently in the process of potentially selling Uniper.
