‘Transparent subsidy regime will reduce transport costs’ – Kebbi ADC backs Atiku

The Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has expressed support for the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, regarding his proposal to reintroduce fuel subsidy if he becomes president. In a recent statement, the ADC said that a transparent and accountable subsidy system could help alleviate transportation costs and the prices of essential commodities, especially amid rising economic pressures.

ADC Deputy Publicity Secretary Abubakar Musa highlighted that Nigerians are currently facing increased expenses on goods and services, as well as transportation costs. The Kebbi ADC argued that a corruption-free subsidy regime could significantly reduce the financial burden on low-income households by lowering transportation and commodity prices.

The party emphasized that Atiku's proposal is pertinent to the current economic climate and expressed their endorsement of his stance. Meanwhile, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and petroleum marketer in Kebbi State, Aminullah Mustapha, opposes Atiku's proposal. Mustapha contends that restoring the fuel subsidy could reignite corruption and abuse associated with the previous subsidy regime.

He also alleged that funds allocated to petroleum marketers were often misused, with some marketers receiving payments for products that were never delivered. Mustapha argued that during the subsidy regime, a significant amount of funds intended for designated areas were diverted, and some marketers pocketed money without transporting any oil.
