Torres scores twice on PSG debut to salvage draw

Ferran Torres, the World Cup winner, scored twice for Paris St-Germain in their Ligue 1 opener, salvaging a 2-2 draw at Rennes. The 26-year-old, who recently completed a £42.7m move from Barcelona, played as a debutant for PSG. Boss Luis Enrique substituted Torres for Ousmane Dembele at halftime after the French champions were trailing 2-0.

Torres capitalized on the change, netting the 71st and 82nd-minute goals. Rennes, who finished sixth in the previous season, had taken a 2-0 lead in the first half, scored by Sebastian Szymanski and Esteban Lepaul. But the quality on the PSG bench, including Torres, proved too much for Rennes, who could not maintain their advantage.

The fixture, originally scheduled to be played in Paris, was reversed and held in Brittany due to severely damaged pitch conditions from a heatwave. PSG aim to win their sixth consecutive Ligue 1 title this season, as well as secure a third straight Champions League trophy.
