Tata Power commissions 190.5MW solar plant in Rajasthan, India

Tata Power Renewable Energy, a Tata Power subsidiary, has officially opened a 190.5MW solar facility in Kalasar, Rajasthan, India, as part of a 460MW scheme under the FDRE initiative. This plant will provide electricity to distribution companies such as Haryana Power Purchase Centre, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company, and Noida Power Company.

The project is designed to bolster grid reliability and includes a 115MW-hour battery energy storage system. The construction faced several challenges, including tight deadlines and disruptions in supply chain, impacting transmission materials, mounting structures, and other vital equipment. However, the company employed modern technologies like the battery storage system, harmonic filter bank, and static var generator systems.

The newly commissioned switchyard was completed in just three months, while the harmonic filter bank was installed within a month. This 190.5MW solar plant brings Tata Power Renewable Energy's total renewable utility capacity to 12.4GW, with around 6.9GW currently operational. This includes 5.6GW of solar and 1.3GW of wind power.

Another 5.5GW is currently under various stages of implementation, with completion expected within the next two years. Tata Power, a vertically integrated energy firm in the Tata Group, operates across all segments of the power sector. The company's total capacity, including projects still in construction, exceeds 26GW, with approximately 17.7GW from clean energy sources and roughly 8.8GW from thermal generation.

Recently, Tata Power's subsidiary, TPREL, started building an 800MW energy project in Andhra Pradesh, India.
