Tamil Nadu government to reimburse money for three LPG cylinders annually from Pongal 2027: CM Vijay

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced on Monday that eligible homemakers, middle and marginal farmers, and families of persons with disabilities will receive reimbursement for three domestic LPG cylinders annually starting from Pongal Day in 2027. This scheme, known as the 'Annapoorani Super Six Scheme', is expected to benefit approximately 1,30,16,104 families and cost the government around ₹4,000 crore.

The initiative was one of the main election promises made by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) during the 2026 Assembly polls. Speaking on the matter, the Chief Minister stated that the funds for the cylinders would be directly deposited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. He informed that the government would obtain the list of beneficiaries from the oil companies after the recipients receive the cylinders post-registration.

The reimbursement decision was made due to a shortage of cylinders in the last four months following the conflict in the West Asian region and the subsequent increase in fuel prices, which have put a strain on people's incomes. Despite facing a financial crisis, Vijay assured that the government would fulfill the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's poll promise by providing the free cylinders to the eligible families.
