Singapore steps up air‑quality checks amid rising smoke activity in Kalimantan and Sumatra

SINGAPORE faces the risk of returning haze, the National Environment Agency (NEA) warned on Monday after detecting rising hotspot activity. The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) currently ranges from 70-94, remaining in the moderate level, though readings above 100 are deemed unhealthy. With prevailing winds from the south or southeast, occasional periods of haze could affect Singapore.

The NEA has observed an escalation in hotspot and smoke haze activity over the weekend, especially in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra. Dry conditions are expected to persist throughout the week. The NEA will issue daily haze advisories if the PSI enters the unhealthy range, defined as a reading above 100. The ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre has raised its alert to Level 2, indicating an increasing risk of transboundary haze.

The 28 agencies comprising the inter-agency haze task force, chaired by NEA, are prepared to implement their respective action plans if air quality worsens. The public can access updates via the NEA's website, haze microsite, myENV application, and social media channels.
